Mr Chewy

I was recently contacted by the folks over at Mr Chewy about testing and honestly reviewing their service. I had visited their website shortly before they contacted me, so their request came at a great time and I was happy to participate. Here are my thoughts…

Honestly, I don’t really like going to the pet store. Even though a Pet Supermarket recently opened up about 10 minutes from my house, the thought of getting in the car, driving through Englewood in the awful snow bird traffic, and lugging a 25lb+ bag of dog food though the store (and buying other stuff I don’t need) is not pleasant. With Mr Chewy, you can hop online, order your dog’s food (or cat food, litter, flea & tick prevention, treats, etc) within minutes, and have it arrive at your door in a couple of days–all without the stress or time it takes to drive to the pet store and back! Maybe I’m just lazy, but I think that’s a pretty good deal (Buddy might not like it, though, because he doesn’t get to go to the store and pee on shopping carts). Plus, all orders over $49 get free 1-2 day shipping, and if you’re ordering big, expensive bags of food like me, that’s another plus. I ordered Buddy’s food, Blue Buffalo Basics Salmon & Potato, on a Saturday and it arrived the following Tuesday. If you want to make things even easier, you can choose subscription-based delivery or your pet’s food, and automatically purchase and receive food every two weeks, four weeks, or whatever schedule you set. It’s incredibly simple and stress-free.

Another awesome thing I just learned about Mr Chewy is that they have a referral program that gives back to pet-related charities. Once you set up your account, you get a unique code to share with your friends. When your friends use Mr Chewy and enter that special code, they get 10% off their order, and Mr Chewy gives $10 to your choice of three charities–Best Friends Animal Society, Bideawee, and North Shore Animal League. I love that they are giving back to these great causes! If you decide to order from Mr Chewy, use my code, EFFB6575, and you’ll get 10% off your order, and these charities will get a donation!

Mr Chewey has over 70 brands of dog food to choose from, including Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, Orijen, and Natural Balance. They also offer cat food, litter (I wish their litter selection was larger–Lucy gets Yesterday’s News in her litter box), treats, and flea and tick prevention. I found their prices to be reasonable, their delivery fast, and the whole experience extremely easy–and I didn’t have to leave the house. If you’re tired of trips to the pet store, give Mr Chewy a try. Buddy and I give them two paws up!

You can also find Mr Chewy on Twitter and Facebook.

I’d also like to add that while I like ordering dog food from Mr Chewy, this doesn’t mean I’ll stop supporting my favorite local small pet businesses, like the fabulous Pawprint Essentials! When it comes to knowledge about all natural pet care and truly personal service, you can’t beat your local pet businesses. The amount of time and care that they put into offering you the best products for your pets is unparalleled and I support these businesses wholeheartedly!

Brittani - This is really neat! Mr. Chewy also just recently emailed me offering the same thing…I hadn’t responded yet because I support a local pet bakery and want to keep business local. I used to use SmartPak and I LOVED the convenience of delivery, but this looks like a great alternative with better brand choices, and I also love that they support pet organizations with the proceeds :) Oh PS I laughed out loud about Buddy peeing on shopping carts haha!

Emilee - Yeah, Britt, the local vs national business is my only qualm. However, I think it’s perfect for people who don’t have a good pet store close by that they can shop at. I checked out SmartPak, too, before going with Mr Chewy. They have so many more brands. But I find use for SmartPak–I want every horsey thing on that site! lol
