HSSC Adoptable Dogs

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Hope everyone is having a great Friday! I spent the afternoon hanging out at the Humane Society of Sarasota County, loving on and photographing some wonderful adoptable dogs and cats. I don’t have time to share photos of all of the animals now, so I’ll leave you with my favorite images of the wonderful dogs. Can you help them find homes?

Honey Bear is a beautiful Australian Cattle Dog/Husky mix, and Little One is an extremely loving Border Collie mix.

These two were super sweet and super photogenic, especially Miss Macy.

Tiger is a big, energetic ball of sheer muscle and love. He has the most handsome, goofy face! Zach was found tied up outside the shelter and is terribly broken and afraid. I hope he finds the perfect home very soon, he needs it.

Isn’t Venus just gorgeous? She could be a supermodel. I love, love, love this image!

More HSSC Adoptables!

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Now that Fred has had his own special post, it’s time to share the rest of the photos of the dogs and cats at the Humane Society of Sarasota County. I went to the shelter three times this month, as their other photographer couldn’t come in. I really enjoy visiting the shelter and meeting and photographing the adoptables, but it is SO hard to not bring them all home with me! Hopefully the photos will help them find homes so I won’t have to give Buddy (and my parents) a heart attack by bringing home some new four-legged family members. :)

First up, the dogs! This lovely lady is Aurora, a sweet, energetic young Pit Bull mix. She is a DOLL and I can’t imagine why she doesn’t have a home yet!

Indira is a young Lab/Pit mix who really needs a home. She was found in an abandoned warehouse with a litter of puppies. She is very skittish and needs someone who will shower her with love and bring her out of her shell.

Molly, a lovely Greyhound mix, is just a big ball of love and energy! She even knows how to sit pretty! This girl will make someone a fabulous, fun companion.

Now onto the cats! Etta James has been at the shelter an extremely long time – OVER A YEAR! Can you give this sweet kitty a home?

After meeting Fred at the Humane Society of Sarasota County, I was shocked that he didn’t have a home yet. Fred is a handsome young American Bulldog with such a sweet, gentle personality. However, a bad case of arthritis in his front legs and a chronic skin condition has kept him from being adopted. No one wants to look at a dog with health problems, unfortunately. Fred’s front knees were injured and did not heal properly, causing arthritis in his front legs. So, he’s definitely a great couch potato. He also has a skin allergy that causes sores on his feet and chin. It’s a pretty severe recurring problem, but it can be kept under some control with medication. Fred is just a big lovebug and deserves a wonderful home! My heart breaks for this sweet boy, thinking of how uncomfortable and lonely he must be in the shelter. The volunteers take excellent care of him, but he really needs a home.

Can you help spread the word about Fred so he can find a home? Please share this post on Facebook, Twitter, or your own blog. This boy desperately needs someone to love and care for him. Let’s help him!

More dogs and cats from HSSC will be on the blog soon! I just thought Fred deserved his own special post, as he is in such desperate need of a home. Please spread the word about his sweet boy so he’ll find a forever family!

More HSSC Adoptables

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

I had the pleasure of visiting the Humane Society of Sarasota County again to photograph more wonderful animals waiting for forever homes. I really enjoy spending afternoons getting to know and photograph the awesome dogs and cats at the shelter. While the fabulous volunteers at HSSC give the animals tons of TLC, it’s just not the same as it would be if they were in a real family. They have so much love to give and deserve the best homes! Can you find room in your heart and home for one of these sweet animals?

Precious little Daphne just made me melt! Who can resist that darling puppy face? And Oscar the Dachshund is such a handsome little man. He was surrendered because his owners couldn’t afford to have his teeth cleaned. But they’re clean now and he’s ready for a new home!

**UPDATE** Daphne is being adopted this afternoon! I’m so happy for her. We thought it might take longer because she is a Pit Bull, but someone fell in love with her. Yay!

Mia is a Shepherd mix with the loveliest eyes and markings!

Now onto the kitties! Doesn’t Catfish have cool eyes?

I didn’t photography any kittens this time, but there are lots of them at the shelter. Visit HSSC online or in person to view the many animals up for adoption, then give one a home!

HSSC Adoptables

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Last week I visited the Humane Society of Sarasota County to photograph some of their adoptable dogs and cats. I spent three hours working with four dogs, two cats, and about ten darling kittens. That was only a fraction of the animals awaiting loving forever homes. There are so many animals in need, sitting in shelters until someone comes along and adopts them. It wasn’t easy to walk through the shelter and look at all of the dogs and cats without wanting to take them all home, especially the kittens and a 7 year old Pit Bull named Hardee.

Hardee is one of the hard-to-adopt dogs, not because he is ill tempered or mean, but because of his breed and tough appearance. His ears were crudely cut off, probably as a puppy, and he is a hefty 98 pounds. But do not let his looks and size fool you, he is just a big, laid-back baby! Hardee loves to chase lizards and just lounge around. So many people don’t like Pitties because the bad reputation the media has given them. Yes, these dogs are very powerful and they do require special owners–owners who will give them the exercise, training, and positive attention that they need, not encourage aggression for the sake of entertainment or having a tough dog. All I ask is that people would give these dogs a chance. I know this breed is not for everyone. Instead of owning one, perhaps you could volunteer at a shelter and meet some Pits or Pit mixes. Just see if they don’t steal your heart. Hardee will make someone a fantastic companion and pet. Could you be that person?

Anyways, I’ll get off my soapbox now and share some images! If you are interested in any of the animals below, please call (941-955-4131) or visit the Humane Society of Sarasota County to inquire about the available animals. Or if you know of someone who you think would be interested in one of these dogs or cats, share this information with them. All of these animals are just waiting for someone to take them home and love them!

Isn’t Hardee handsome?

Now, onto the cats and kittens! I’m not sharing all of the kittens, because I believe some of them have already founds homes (yay!).
