Friday Film | Olivia Jane

Happy Friday, everyone!

I had more film developed yesterday and am loving the results. Seriously, I could go on and on about how much fun I’m having shooting film! It’s all I’ve been using for my personal work over the past month.

I finally got a light meter, the Sekonic L-508 (discontinued, but available on keh.com), and it has already proven to be well worth the price. After reading the manual, I grabbed my light meter and tested it out using my D700, so I could see the results instantly. Once I was satisfied with how things were looking, I put it to work with my film camera and shot a roll of Kodak Portra 400, using Olivia Jane as my test model. Yes, Buddy and Penny are both great models (especially my Budman), but Olivia really knows how to work the camera, and has been doing so since she was a puppy. And I don’t need treats with her, just a dirty stick or a ball is all it takes to get her focused! She’s also adorable (obviously) and obedient–a photographer’s dream.

Here she is… Olivia Jane on film!

Friday Film

The first week of 2012 has been great down here in Florida. We’ve finally had some nice cold weather (well, cold to Floridians!), the sun has been shining, and I’ve been working out my goals for the new year. One of those goals is to blog more, and not neglect to share photos and stories when I’m busy. I haven’t done a Friday Five post in a long time, and want to start doing this posts regularly again. From here on out, every Friday you can expect to see a Friday Five post or a Friday Film post. Since I just had two rolls of film developed, we’ll start with Friday Film!

I’ve been practicing shooting film a lot lately, and although I still don’t have a light meter, the results have been pretty consistent. I normally end up overexposing, but not too bad, thankfully. I’m in love with film, though! It’s so light and soft and pretty. And I’m not spending all of my time in Photoshop! :)

First we have Walter, who doesn’t get on the blog too much. He’d rather hang out in his hidey-house than have his picture taken, but he’s too cute to ignore!

On Wednesday I brought my camera out to the barn to photograph Rydell, the sweet, handsome, cookie-loving little horse that I lease. I’ve been working with him since July, and we’ve made a lot of progress. He’s one awesome horse!

And I’ll leave you with a few random nature photos. Hope everyone’s year is off to a wonderful start!

Buddy on Film

This was going to be a Friday Five post, but I’m experiencing writer’s block at the moment, so I thought I’d share five photos of my darling Buddy instead. Who can complain about that? These are from my second roll of film, and my second attempt at getting some good film photos of the Budman. They were much less over-exposed this time, but still needed some minor tweaking. I’m excited to get some more film developed tomorrow–it’s awesome to step away from my digital camera and try something new that’s not only fun, but also makes me a better photographer. Yay for film!

Doesn’t Buddy look handsome in his new Christmas collar from Pawprint Essentials?
